The September Spoon River Valley FFA Chapter Meeting was called to order by Amelia Perrellies at 7 pm. There were 17 members and 9 guests present. The officer team started the meeting by explaining old business to the members and parents.
Kyle talked about State convention explaining we had 3 students attend, 2 of which received their state degree and one compete in the Job interview CDE.
Kendra recapped this summer’s section fair saying we had 1 goat exhibitor, 2 pig exhibitors, and 5 cattle exhibitors.
Breanna stood up and told the crowd about the Horse judging CDE that she and 3 other members attended.
Lilly talked about the greenhand conference and how the 3 girls met lots of new people and learned all about the opportunities FFA has to offer.
Anthony explained the Mid century dinner and the chapter cooking pork chops, we graciously received a donation of $400.
After a recap of the year, we moved on to new business.
Emma talked about the upcoming Forestry CDE on Sept. 24th at Spoon River College.
She then moved on to explain Fantasy Farming and the field trip that the Ag science class will be taking to Monsanto inorder to learn about their plot and different aspects of the crop industry.
Emma then explained Chapter visits for the 7th grade class occuring October 7th, and Leadership Training School October 9th. Emma the other section officers and Emma Frebarian, the Illinois State Treasure, will be visiting the underclassmen to teach them about leadership skills and the possibilities FFA can provide them.
November 1-2nd the chapter will attend National convention to support Katelyn Eathington walking across the stage to receive her American degree. Since the Chapter will not be attending the convention during the week Emma explained the Greenhand night that the chapter will hold to encourage new members to be active in FFA.
Kyle debriefed the group on the new incentive plan for the students to rack up points by attending FFA events to earn a trip to a fun activity.
Finally Emma explained the different committees to sign up for and encouraged all members to be active within the chapter.
The meeting was adjourned and ice cream was served after business was taken care of.
